NZU 2007 Mixed tour event

Espionage rulz... !!!

After a season out in the wilderness - SPY are back with a vengeance! After a somewhat surprising dominance over Credo on Saturday, SPY were set to face Sour Cream (the number one seeds) in the semi-final. After starting well SPY found themselves struggling to find an answer for Sour Cream's high percentage offence in the wind. But a never say die attitude saw them rally to come from behind to take the game in sudden death. (Sorry our Photographer of the year couldn't make this one - so no action shots! )

The second semi-final saw a Credo team that was obviously hurting from their previous defeat to SPY and they came out firing and ended up beating the highly favoured 'Where is Hayden' team that had gone unbeaten on Saturday (beating Sour Cream in pool play) taking the number seed into the semi's.

So the final saw a Credo vs SPY rematch. This was clearly to be a different game to that of pool play. The wind was still a factor but by no means the dominant force it was on Saturday. Credo started well and SPY struggled to score up wind. At 7-3 many were starting think it was all over - that's when SPY shifted into top gear with a 5 point run to take the half at 8-7. Now it was all on and the dedicated crowd that had hung around was treated to a spectacular finish with SPY finally taking out the game 13-11 at time cap.

Despite hard grounds taking their toll - a fun time was had by all. but... "Where is Hayden???

Hello All,

We have 7 confirmed teams and 2 more that I am pretty sure are coming. The seven teams are Credo, Ginja Snatch, MUA, MUD, Sour Cream, Where Is Hadyen, & WUF. The 2 unconfirmed teams are Kia & Spy. If you know someone in these teams please get them to contact me ASAP.

WUF have 16 people & there 3 extras without a team if we can find a few more players then we have a 10th team if any one knows some strays floating who would like to play please contact me

On the financial side of things the cost is $300 per team + $10 per player NZU levy. If you pay before this Friday (23rd March 2007) it is $250 per team + $10 per player NZU levy. You'll also need to complete the attached spreadsheet and return it to me before the tournament

Events

  • The AGM will be held on the Saturday Night probably at the hall at the field immediately after the last game. I will be checking the Hall on Wednesday to ensure it is good for us. NZU have promised pizza.
  • Later on the Saturday night there will be a combined tour, birthday (Jaws & Katie), welcoming party at Jaws’ place in Mt Victoria very close to the city and probably where most of you will be staying. His downstairs neighbours have decided to join in, so it should be quite big. A whole building party. The theme is Hollywood. I’m trying to organise a clean(ish) bath full of ice and beer.
  • BBQ during the final – stay, watch the final and listen the speeches… Hollywood theme again and enjoy a BBQ.
  • New prize… in addition to the regulars - 1st place, MVP, and Spirit, there is a new category… most entertaining Fantasy Player, this is probably for the participants on the side line rather the players on the field but who knows… Bribing the TD will certainly improve your chances.
  • We will not be providing lunches. At the Rongotai College grounds you are 5 minutes walk from a Pak n Save and some quite good cafés… We will provide fruit and water as normal.
